Questions we get before
we get hired.
/01Will you cut scope to fit my budget?
Yes — and we'll tell you exactly what we cut and why before you sign. The studio's most-repeated phrase to clients is "do less, better." It's not posture; it's how we stay sharp. If your budget genuinely won't carry the work, we'll say so and recommend two studios who can.
/02Why are your prices not on the practice pages?
They are — every practice page lists a "starts at" figure that's the real floor for an engagement, not an aspirational opener. The reason we don't publish a full rate card is that the same brief, in two different organisations, takes different work. We'd rather quote against your situation than against a tier.
/03How long does a typical engagement run?
Six to fourteen weeks of active work, plus a year of quarterly reviews included in the fee. The studio doesn't do indefinite retainers — we've found they make both sides lazy. If we still belong on your team after the included year, we sign a new scope.
/04Are you hiring?
Quietly, always. We hire one person every nine to twelve months. Send a CV and three pieces of writing — yours, not the studio's. We read everything that comes in, eventually. We don't run open calls; we don't run unpaid internships.
/05Do you work outside the UK?
Yes, but not often. About a third of our cases are based outside London — Berlin, New York, Lagos, Mumbai. We don't open overseas offices and we say no to any project that requires more than two long-haul trips inside the engagement. The studio's calendar is honest about this.
/06What kinds of clients do you say no to?
Gambling, fossil-fuel extraction, defence, payday lending, surveillance tech, and anything where the brief is "make us look ethical." We've turned down five of those in the last year. The studio's sketchbook doesn't include them; the values page on About does.
